Description
Since Donald Trump's re-election, politicians and media have increasingly referred to the founding ideals of the USA: freedom, self-determination, the American Dream. But whose freedom was actually meant in 1776 – and who paid for it? In his book "Mythos 1776," historian Hiram Kümper, professor at the University of Mannheim, reconstructs the heroic epic of the Founding Fathers and tells American history also from the perspective of the millions of enslaved Black people, indigenous peoples, and all those who made America great, while their own freedoms remained small. A talk about historical myths and political present. Moderation: Alexander Armbruster, responsible editor for Wirtschaft Online
