From October 30 to November 1, 2026, the TEXTUR festival invites you on a journey through the medieval world of music, literature, and storytelling. Concerts, readings, a book presentation, a lecture, and workshops connect historical sources with new perspectives, bringing forgotten stories back to life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEXTUR 2026 focuses on storytelling in music and word. Long before stories found their fixed place between two book covers, they were recited, sung, and passed on. They traveled from one voice to another, were altered, embellished, and brought to life anew each time. Under the motto "Romane und Romanzen", our third edition brings together medieval narrative styles and contemporary artistic perspectives. We are interested not only in what has been handed down but also in how stories are reshaped through sound. In various locations in and around Basel, TEXTUR invites you to hear music in unusual constellations. Concerts are combined with discussions, workshops, readings, and encounters with the artists. Historical manuscripts, instruments, and locations will be part of the festival, along with the images and sounds of the present. We aim to create spaces where the past and present can find new connections, where knowledge and artistic experience merge – and from the inherited, something unheard emerges.
