TEREKTY - An Expedition into the Value of Glaciers

Description

The film follows a remote expedition in Kyrgyzstan led by expedition leader Martin Kaiser, documented by filmmakers Patrick Barylla and Leon Riener. Together with glaciologist Lander van Tricht from ETH Zurich, the journey takes them deep into the Tian Shan mountains, past melting glaciers, unpredictable weather, and physical as well as mental challenges. Amid icy nights, steep passes, and the isolation of the mountains, an emotional story unfolds about teamwork, perseverance, and the fascination of untouched nature on the way to three unexplored glaciers. At the same time, the film combines impressive nature imagery with current glacier research and societal questions surrounding water, climate, and economic interests. Thus, a documentary portrait emerges where scientific insights meet the immediate reality of an expedition at the limit.
