Description

The new production of Smetana's Tajemství is directed by Ondřej Havelka, a director with an excellent sense for musical theater, stage humor, and a visually captivating way of storytelling. Tajemství is the seventh and penultimate opera by Bedřich Smetana and the second that arose from collaboration with librettist Eliška Krásnohorská. Krásnohorská prepared a great libretto for Smetana, which with its motifs can remind one of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet as well as later works like Stroupežnický's Naše furianty. In one city, two feuding families, the Malinovi and the Kalinovi, live. Their fathers, who are also councilors, have been competing for social status for years.
