Stories of radicals like you. The path of the righteous is lined with injustice from all sides. The production BAL@DA is loosely inspired by the story of Jaromír Balda, the first Czech terrorist, who at the age of seventy felled trees on the tracks out of fear of "invasions from the east." His act became a reminder of how easily panic and conspiracy theories can engulf individuals and society. Who is lurking behind our fence? How many seniors are needed to change the regime? And why does fear so easily turn into anger? The original production by Studio SEN, directed by Tomáš Soldán, is not a reconstruction of a criminal case. On stage, nine actresses and one actor from Studio SEN, with detachment and personal engagement, play out grotesque and balladic situations inspired by Balda's story. Instead of dark solitude, they bring the energy of a collective and the desire to find courage in places where fear reigns. Thus, a mosaic of stories emerges – about radicalization and xenophobia, about gardening, neighborly fences, and Czech songs that are allegedly in danger. The project is led by director and radio author Tomáš Soldán, a member of the Brno artistic group Masakr Elsinor, who has experience from both Czech and international stages, and set designer Jana Hauskrechtová, who collaborates with leading Czech theaters and received an Honorary Mention at the festival …příští vlna/next wave… for Project of the Year.
