In the music world, there are many artists who learn blues from recordings and books, but for American musician Stud Ford, this genre represents a life space in which he grew up from childhood. As the grandson of legendary hill country blues representative T-Model Ford, he was on stage as a small child. He experienced raw blues and the harsh reality of the music craft in real Mississippi juke joints. In hindsight, he recalls that as a boy he didn't fully understand why his grandfather forced him to play in these clubs all night, but after his death, he fully understood that he was teaching him about his own culture and passing on the key to its preservation. After his grandfather's death, Stud Ford took up the family legacy. He soon went on tour with Lightnin' Malcolm, which was a crucial step that opened doors for him to collaborate with the respected North Mississippi Allstars and definitively confirmed his exceptional qualities as a multi-instrumentalist, excelling not only as a guitarist but also as a drummer. Since then, he has shared stages with other icons of the genre, including R. L. Boyce and Robert Belfour. The style that Stud Ford represents is pure Mississippi hill country blues. It is music built on repetitive, hypnotic, and rhythmically compelling guitar riffs, where a deep groove carries much more weight than flashy solos. The combination of a strong family legacy and uncompromising inner drive has already taken this musician from small local clubs to the stages of prestigious festivals, such as the American Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, the traditional Hill Country Picnic, or the Swiss Blues Rules. His current studio recordings clearly demonstrate that Stud is by no means living solely off his famous family name, but transforms inherited foundations into something immensely alive, urgent, and contemporary. As part of the Blues Alive Tour 2026, he will present himself to the domestic audience in a completely classic and typical setup for the style, namely in a raw duo with a drummer, where he himself handles the vocals and plays the electric guitar. Concertgoers should not expect any academic museum exhibit or respectful retro tribute to the past. Stud Ford brings deep groove, burning southern heat, hard-earned authenticity, and above all, the expression of a musician who has blues written directly in his DNA.
