Over six evenings, we explore focal points in China's art, culture, and history from the imperial era to the present. We meet the man who invented China, and the poet who stepped through space (221 BC); the riding courtesan and artist who sent her patrons to war (1592); the anti-utopian who scrutinized the sins of his time (1637); the novelist who wrote about the lost paradise of youth (1760); the female writer who broke all traditions and dreamed of communism (1928); and today's artists under Xi Jinping, the architect of new Silk Roads and a new world order amidst sporting mega-events, pandemic, and global conflicts.

"Sternstunden Chinas" is a series of events at the University of St. Gallen that highlights significant moments in Chinese history and culture. The lectures offer a deep insight into China's development from antiquity to modern times.
