Štěpánka Balcarová a Małgorzata Hutek Quartet / Zuzanna

Description

The new Czech-Polish quartet of trumpeter and composer Štěpánka Balcarová continues previous successful projects inspired by Polish poetry, particularly the albums Life and Happiness of Julian Tuwim (2017) and the orchestral Happiness (2022), which received the Anděl Award in the jazz category. The current project Zuzanna features set-to-music poems by Polish Jewish poetess Zuzanna Ginczanka (1917–1944), whose poetry is characterized by extraordinary sensitivity, irony, and reflection of the times. In addition to Štěpánka Balcarová and the award-winning Polish singer Małgorzata Hutek, the quartet also includes double bassist Jaromír Honzák and guitarist David Dorůžka – significant figures in the Czech jazz scene, who often collaborate with Polish musicians in their own music projects.
