Description
This workshop offers a discovery of the Shetland fiddle, through a captivating detour via the Shetland Islands, at the crossroads of Scottish and Scandinavian influences. Participants will learn reels and jigs, covering the essential elements of this violin style: bowing technique, rhythmic precision, phrasing, and articulation in service of dance. Special attention will be given to the energy of playing and the relationship between music and body movements. Guided by Maurice Henderson, a major figure in the Shetland scene, and the musicians of the Haltadans group, this workshop is primarily aimed at string players but also open to any instrumentalist wishing to explore this 'Celtic' repertoire, in a demanding yet accessible approach, connected to a living tradition.
