Edible mushrooms are a guarantee for biodiversity in our forests and ecosystems. There are thus various points of connection for biology lessons. The instructions for own mushroom cultivation can be implemented in schools. Learning objectives The native mushroom flora is particularly diverse. In Switzerland alone, about 5,500 species of macrofungi (macromycetes) are present. The culinary aspects of mushrooms are of great importance. Additionally, they are indispensable for nature: through their ecological function as decomposers, symbionts of forest trees, parasites, or as important links in the food chain of insects or small mammals. They are a guarantee for biodiversity in our forests and ecosystems. There are thus various points of connection for biology lessons.
