The Zürcher Theater Spektakel was founded in 1980 as an international meeting of independent theaters. It quickly developed into a major cultural event on an international scale. Today, it is one of the most important European festivals for contemporary performing arts. A coherent program of high artistic quality, a unique atmosphere, and an open and interested audience in large numbers form the basis of this successful story and make Theater Spektakel a sought-after venue for artists from around the world. The festival lasts 18 days and takes place on the Landiwiese. The site, resembling a park and located directly on Lake Zurich, includes up to eight performance venues of different sizes, specially built for the occasion. Additionally, the Werfthalle and the stages of the Rote Fabrik cultural center will be used. Open-air performances, freely accessible installations, artistic interventions on the site, as well as festival restaurants and bars, make Landiwiese a point of attraction for culture enthusiasts and night owls well beyond Zurich. In interaction with the program, they make the Zürcher Theater Spektakel a lively and attractive cultural celebration, where the open-air season once again shows its best side.
