The travel agency that takes you to these holiday destinations is called the Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich. Risks and travel costs are low, and the guides speak your language. As in all foreign worlds, you need almost all your senses to experience the unknown or simply to enjoy it.
In the Botanical Garden, plants from all continents, medicinal, dyeing, and food plants can be discovered. Additionally, the three tropical houses offer a colorful and fragrant variety – even in winter. The biggest contrast to our winter flora is the "Lowland Tropical House," where a colorful and lush plant display can be found at 24 degrees Celsius and high humidity: vanilla, cassava, or cocoa. With a bit of luck, you can hear the singing of pip frogs. You can also climb a giant tree and view the abundance from a lofty height. In the "Tropical Dry Areas" house, you will encounter diverse spiky shapes from around the world, useful plants like frankincense, jojoba, or caper bushes. In a display case at a comfortable viewing height, carnivorous plants can be observed digesting their prey. It also contains a rarity: Welwitschia from the Namib Desert. The third tropical house, "Mountain Forest," features a collection of evolutionarily primitive plants and many red-flowering species pollinated by birds in their native habitats. A true mimosa awaits your touch.
