Back to the roots: Games on breath. Invention, tension, and fantasy. Divided into three acts, this project explores breathing and breath as vectors of tension, complex rhythms, and contrasting energies, transforming air into an invisible thread connecting silence and sound. Edgard Varèse's Octandre, a cornerstone of wind writing, blends with Whirls by Kevin Juillerat, a Lausanne-based composer and refined saxophone performer, highlighting the unique character of the quintet. John Menoud's MERZ, a major step among the works of the NEC in recent decades, takes on a new dimension in this trio version: the bass clarinet guides exchanges between trumpet and drums, emphasizing tension and dynamics. The power of interpretation peaks in .... da kehrte die Ruhe ein... by Nina Šenk, a piece with a great atmosphere that masterfully weaves the voices of the horn, trumpet, and trombone. From these experiences, a new sound adventure is born: the Little Concerto for trumpet and ensemble, entirely made with toy instruments, transforms forgotten materials into surprising sounds and reveals worlds still unknown. For the ensemble, this project becomes a true exploratory journey, where Ilona Perger's writing illuminates new sound paths and unexpected instrumental interactions. For the concert in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the project includes a mediation activity with students from 3H of Numa-Droz in partnership with La Minute Sonore.
