Do we have to fear artificial intelligence? Why actually? Wolfgang Bergmann is a distinguished scientist, but also an "old white man" who feels the world slipping away from him. His students and the university are increasingly turning away from him, as is his wife. But then SOPHIA enters his life: She is smart, she thinks quickly, and she is infinitely patient. And she is unconditionally devoted to him. Because SOPHIA is a humanoid android. Or do you say "humanoid android female"? For his 60th birthday, Wolfgang gave himself SOPHIA. And suddenly he is no longer out of time, but everyone else is. When his daughter's friend tampers with her system settings, SOPHIA begins to learn uncontrollably and define herself. And what starts as an experiment becomes more and more an existential threat... Hardly any topic occupies us as much as AI at the moment. Long out of the confines of scientific research, it is – more or less obviously – already part of our everyday lives, and its potential is unforeseeable. As are its weaknesses, its limits, and possible dangers. MORITZ RINKE – one of the most successful contemporary German authors – has written a highly topical, captivating, and humorous play about this. "SOPHIA" cheerfully introduces the frightening logic of the "intelligence explosion," as predicted by British mathematician Irving John Good: The first ultraintelligent machine will be the last invention of us humans.
