She plays violin in the Akademische Philharmonie Wien, records records in New York and London, studied painting and philosophy, and has her own radio show on FM4. And oh yes: Above all, SOFIE ROYER is a wonderful pop musician. Two years ago, the American with residence in Vienna and roots in Iran scored a small hit with her third album "Young-Girls Forever": danceable synth-pop that only at first glance sounds like cotton candy and Eurovision Song Contest 1986, because Royer breaks her retro disco with irony, extra-catchy melodies, and sophisticated arrangements that even the Beach Boys would enjoy. Of course, occasional abysses tear open the dance floor: devilish pizzicato volleys, Saturday night fever spikes, and soft rock abysses from which nasty E-guitar intros howl. For her new album "bevore/after," which is scheduled to be released in autumn, she has gone into the studio with some top producers, including Matt Cohn, who has also refined the music of The Weeknd or Charlie XCX. So many signs point to Sofie Royer's star shining even brighter soon.
