Sofa Reading: Dorothee Kohler – Four Sides of Life

Description

During the sofa readings, Swiss debut authors take a seat on a shared apartment sofa or an artist's couch and present their texts in a personal setting. Dorothee Kohler's father leaves her boxes of documents after his death. By chance, the author opens a box and learns about an aunt about whom her family had previously remained silent. Driven by curiosity, but also shocked by the extent of the secret, she decides to learn more about her hidden aunt's life. Kohler's story also touches on a dark chapter of Swiss history: the treatment of women in psychiatry. She summarizes her research in her debut "Four Sides of Life" (Limmat Verlag 2026) – a touching investigative report on a concealed family history.
