Description

The title of this ballet two-part promises an evening of contrasts: speed versus slowness. In 2027, the ballet world celebrates the 80th birthday of Jiří Kylián. Over three decades, he shaped the profile of Nederlands Dans Theater, which under his direction has developed into one of the best contemporary ballet companies in the world. Since 1997, the native Prague-born artist has also been associated with Ballet Zürich. Six figures move in slow motion through his piece "Last Touch First," reminiscent of Chekhov and Ibsen. On the narrow line between perceived movement and immobility, psychodramas full of lust, despair, and pathos unfold. Canadian native Stephanie Lake is one of the most significant dance personalities in her adopted homeland Australia. She is the resident choreographer of the Australian Ballet and Resident Choreographer at Semperoper Ballett. With her Stephanie Lake Company based in Melbourne, she tours around the world. Her creations explore the relationship between individual and mass. She choreographs a fast-paced group piece for Ballet Zürich to a new percussion-dominated score by Robin Fox.
