We celebrate 50 years of Swiss ska history, 30 years of Kalles Kaviar, 20 years of Canastron! After three decades on stages, in studios, and on sweat-inducing dance floors, Kalles Kaviar returns with “Nine Feet Tall” – a bold step back to the beginnings. One of the oldest ska bands in Switzerland, emerging from the third wave of the 1990s, now releases their ninth studio album with a renewed focus on raw groove and vintage feel. This time, the Basel crew teamed up with producer Jay Schaetz, left behind the smooth edges, and turned to a deeper, heavier sound inspired by 1960s Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and early reggae. From upbeat, dancefloor-filling ska shuffles to slow-building rocksteady moods to driving early reggae tracks – Nine Feet Tall moves consistently with confidence and character. Those who have experienced the band on stage know why: With Kalles Kaviar, the thing has always been big enough. The party, of course. And it always goes into overtime wherever the eight musicians stand on stage. The ska & rocksteady band “Canastron” from Zurich has not only set this quote as a goal phonetically. The eight-member group repeatedly manages to conquer the hearts of the audience with captivating melodies, grooving rhythms, and a strong stage presence, transmitting the joy of life characteristic of ska to the listener. The band has been on a musical journey since 2006 and, after performances with bands like Two Tone Club, Vendetta, Skaramouche, Nguru, Kalles Kaviar, Berri Txarrak, Open Season, and many more, has made a name for itself in the Swiss ska scene.
