SILENT NEIGHBOR

Description

The singer, guitarist, and songwriter Philipp Saner creates small dramas. His songs are idiosyncratic adaptations of pop, rock, jazz, and country sounds. Sometimes it sounds like theater chanson played by a free-punk combo, sometimes the sound reminds of an Ed Sheeran song orchestrated by Igor Stravinsky. Saner points to the cracks in the surface of cultivated interpersonal relationships and their musical accompaniments. The sound of the band around the Zurich musician never loses its sense of humor despite all emotional and existential urgency. Music is relationship. Relationships cause fear. Fear of the other. And fear of losing them. But singing helps against fear. And that is why “silent neighbor” sings on his new album “Somehow I Care” about glimmers of hope and sparks of life as well as the last resistance and the sure ride into doom. The music sings of toxic sensitivity and tasteless tears. It lets you experience being held, being touched, and dancing with the birds.
