This will be smooth! Just as one imagines traditional Música Popular Brasileira. But with SESSA, the Bossa Nova still sounds a bit different; more modern, playful, psychedelic, yet at least as sun-drenched and buttery as the Tropicalismo of Antônio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell, or Caetano Veloso. Sérgio Sayeg aka Sessa is a legitimate descendant of these Brazilian masters. Growing up in São Paulo, he was initially little interested in his country's musical heritage. He listened to MC5, The Stooges, or Sly & The Family Stone, played in a psychedelic-funk band, until he started playing Bossa Nova, Samba, and Choro on his grandmother's old concert guitar. His beautiful new album "Pequena Vertigem de Amor" is much more than just a continuation of tradition. Sessa mixes slowed-down funk, cocktail jazz, and neo-soul into his music, which manages to melt the ice in a Caipirinha with crackling intimacy and mend broken hearts.
