Description
Music can be deeply moving when its expressive power is infused with bittersweet melancholy. Few composers have brought this to life as poignantly as Sergei Rachmaninow, the 'Master of Enchanting Sadness.' Beyond Russian clichés, he reveals himself as a 'man outside of time.' His music echoes a shattered world: the early ruin of an aristocratic family and the loss of social security shaped his soul. These traumas led to a severe depression that, after the disaster of his 1st Symphony, paralyzed his creativity for three years. Only hypnotherapy with Dr. Nikolai Dahl enabled his return to life and the creation of the triumphant 2nd Piano Concerto. This six-part lecture attempts to shed light on the composer's complete works within their historical context and reception history.
