Description

Founded in 1988 in Lausanne, Sens Unik is considered the flagship of Swiss hip-hop. The original lineup consisted of Carlos Leal (rapper), Just One (DJ and producer), D. bora (singer), Bio (percussionist and drummer), Rade and Osez. Thanks to their cultural diversity, they rapped in French, Spanish, and English, giving their music a unique identity. In 1990, they released their first single "Nouvelle Politik," followed by the EP "Le VIème Sens." They then released the album "Les Portes du temps" on their own label, Unik Records, with the participation of major French hip-hop artists such as Alliance Ethnik and IAM. It was with the concept album "Chromatic" (1994) that they definitively cemented their reputation, notably through collaborations with MC Solaar. The single "Le vent tourne" was included in the legendary soundtrack "La Haine – Musiques inspirées du film." In 1996, Sens Unik moved to New York to record the album "Tribulations." From this album comes the single "Paquito," whose music video was the first by a Francophone rap group to be broadcast on the cult show "Yo! MTV Raps." A year later, the best-of album "Panorama 91–97" was released, featuring unreleased tracks, including collaborations with the German hip-hop group Die Fantastischen Vier. Overall, the group has released nine albums, five of which have been certified gold.
