And how important is the silence that precedes it, welcoming it or resisting it, so that it can attain this meaning? The seventh edition of the Sconfinare Festival arises from these questions and projects them onto a larger horizon: the point where word and silence meet. Every word carries an expectation, a choice, a renunciation, a responsibility. And every silence can preserve listening, humility, reflection – but also mark exclusion, censorship, repression. Between speaking and silence, a vital space opens in individual and collective life: the place where relationships, memory, and the possibility of mutual understanding take shape. In a time when language is omnipresent – in the media, in politics, in private conversations, on screens that accompany each of our gestures – it is urgently necessary to ask not only how much we speak, but also how we speak. Which words do we choose? Which do we accept uncritically? Which remain excluded, distorted, or unutterable? And what is the value of silence if it is not merely absence, but a prerequisite for listening and reflection? The Sconfinare Festival 2026 invites us to engage with these questions through an interdisciplinary program that combines cinema, theater, journalism, literature, music, science, philosophy, poetry, and visual arts. Fifteen of the most significant voices of contemporary culture will take the audience on a journey that invites curiosity and where even silence becomes a lively part of the festival.
