Schwellbrunn cattle show

Description

The cattle show in Schwellbrunn, which takes place at the same time as the fair, is relatively large. To the delight of the numerous spectators lining the village street, around two-thirds of the farmers drive their cattle to the show with all the trappings of an alpine ride or "Öberefahre". There, everyone enters the area under a wooden triumphal arch decorated with fir branches, paper flowers and ribbons, with Senntum bells and quite often with a welcome message on a wreathed board. The cattle are tied to long poles according to predetermined categories. The judging panel, consisting of experienced cattle show experts, now begins its work. They judge the animals according to their beauty and place them in the correct order. It takes until midday to place the animals, as the differences are small, especially with the best breeding cows, and the work of the experts is correspondingly difficult. The best animals are presented in the ring in the afternoon. In the evening, after the animals are back home in the barn, the farmers and their families meet at the Hirschen restaurant for the show critique and prize-giving. This is followed by a down-to-earth feast with singing, cheering and dancing. Timetable: - The cattle are driven up at 8 am - At 10 a. m. the young breeders are introduced - The awards ceremony starts at 2 pm - At 3.30 pm is "Abloo": the animals are brought back to the farms. - The evening ends in the Hirschen restaurant with a show critique and prize distribution. This is followed by a cozy party with singing, cheering and dancing. Good to know: - Access to Schwellbrunn from 7.45 am to 9 am only possible from Herisau, as there are cattle on the roads. - Next to the cattle showground and along the village street there are various festival restaurants - various market stalls with: Edelweiss shirts, cheese, stomach bread, hot chestnuts, toys or spices - Parking spaces are available around the village
