«Schillernde Blasen» | 45 Minutes with Hannes Binder

The illustrator Hannes Binder responds to the exhibition «Schillernde Blasen. Friedrich Glauser – Nando von Arb» and provides insight into his own long-standing engagement with Glauser. «Hannes Binder tells with his pictures what he has read, just as an enthusiastic reader always begins to tell — this is something different from illustration, it is storytelling in and of itself.» Peter Bichsel captures the artistic essence of Binder wonderfully. For fifty years, Hannes Binder has been tracing Glauser: from first comics, through graphic novels, to his own stories where fact and fiction blend. There is hardly a text by Glauser that Binder has not visually continued. His unmistakable cardboard images are much more than illustrations; they continue the stories and engage in a lively dialogue with the author. After his cardboard drawings were once exhibited at the Galerie Litar, he is now a guest for an afternoon. He presents his latest book «Glauser in Nervi» (Limmat Verlag 2025) and provides insight into his decades-long artistic engagement with Friedrich Glauser's work. Hannes Binder (*1947) studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich and worked as a graphic artist and illustrator in Milan and Hamburg. Today he lives as a freelance illustrator in Zürich. His work has been awarded numerous times; in 2022, he received the Kulturpreis of the Canton of Zürich for his artistic work. The exhibition is open before and after the event: from 1–4 pm.
