Santrofi are among the most exciting voices in Ghana's modern Highlife scene. The eight-piece band from Accra combines the rich traditions of West African Highlife with funk, Afrobeat, and a contemporary energy that directly targets the dance floor. Founded in 2019 by bassist and producer Emmanuel Kwadwo Ofori, Santrofi brings together some of the country's most sought-after musicians – artists who have already worked with legends like Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas, or AB Crentsil and are also closely connected to the young Ghanaian music scene. With their acclaimed debut album Alewa (2020), the band gained international recognition. They have performed at renowned festivals such as WOMAD and Roskilde, and have sold-out tours in Europe, Japan, and the USA. Santrofi's enormous stage energy, driven by pulsating percussion grooves, warm horn sections, and multi-voiced singing, makes every concert a celebration of Highlife. With their current album Making Moves, Santrofi opens a new chapter: rooted in the hypnotic rhythms of Highlife, yet open to funk, soul, and modern Afrobeat influences. Their music tells of life in Accra – of love, everyday life, hope, and the courage to keep moving.
