Description

Santrofi was founded in 2019 by a group of dedicated young musicians who share a common love for the music they grew up with: Highlife. This supergroup, led by the charismatic producer and bassist Emmanuel Kwadwo Ofori, brings together eight of Accra's most talented musicians who share a passion for classic Highlife grooves and a Hip-Hop sensibility. The members have played in the bands of numerous Ghanaian artists, including Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas, Ambolley, AK Yeboah, as well as the Highlife pioneer AB Crentsil, with whom they recorded shortly before his death. They have also collaborated with Ghana's popular new stars and with icons like Kidi, Yaw Tog, AratheJay, the rising star Black Sherif, and many others. Since their formation, Santrofi has brought their fresh Highlife energy to stages across Europe, including Roskilde (Denmark), FMM Sines (Portugal), and WOMAD (UK), and recently made a splash in Japan (13 sold-out concerts), and will perform in the USA for the first time in 2024. The incredible live energy of the band was captured on "Deep into Highlife (live in Berlin)," a live album released in October 2023, for which Santrofi was supported on stage by Berlin's best 14-piece brass band, the Omniversal Earkestra, at the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin. Today, the atmosphere heats up under the dome as the three party series Rumba Boxx, Do The Beng Beng, and Akiwawa finally come together again for TROPICAL SIX PACK: DJs Rootsprovisionah, Jallimann, Señor Calor, Hack-Fu, Pun, and Rainer will energize the crowd before and after the concert with crackling Calypso, Mento, Reggae, Salsa, Highlife, Benga, Cumbia, Afrobeat, Forró, Biguine, Rumba, Soukouss, and more. The turntables will feature records from Central/South America, the Caribbean, and Africa, playing both familiar and obscure sounds.
