Description

The biblical story of Samson and Dalila, set in ancient Gaza, demonstrates how emotions and politics have always been closely intertwined. To break the power of the Hebrews, the priestess Dalila seeks to discover the secret of Samson's strength and pretends to love him. However, Samson's revenge is terrible when he destroys Dalila's people's temple and kills himself in the process. One of the most touching moments in Camille Saint-Saëns' most successful opera is Dalila's seduction scene "Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix." Mezzo-soprano Rihab Chaieb and tenor Stanislas de Barbeyrac make their stage debuts in the title roles under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda. Evgeny Titov, who skillfully combines sensuality with psychological depth in his work, directs.
