Description

A girl dances. One by one, in a sensual movement, her seven veils fall to the ground. She dances to please King Herod, and she wants only one thing in return. The head of the man she loves. When he refuses to return her love, Salome longs for at least a kiss from his dead lips… A biblical story about the enchanting Salome, daughter of King Herod, and her obsessive love for the prophet Jochanaan. Richard Strauss's opera, based on Oscar Wilde's play, caused a scandal at its premiere. Janáček Theatre presents this opera in a production by David Radok, one of the best Czech directors.
