Description
Mozart and Mendelssohn – Two Wunderkinder meet Mozart and Mendelssohn – both were prodigies and early deaths, and both possessed the extraordinary gift to make the highest compositional craftsmanship appear weightless and natural. Not coincidentally, Felix Mendelssohn, who already displayed impressive artistic maturity in his youthful string symphonies, was celebrated as the 'Mozart of the century'. This season finale is dedicated by Music Director Daniel Hope to these two brilliant personalities, bringing together pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout – a recognized connoisseur of both Mozart and Mendelssohn, with whom he performs side by side with Daniel Hope in a concert for violin and piano. In the A major Symphony, composed during his Salzburg years, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart processes his freshly gained impressions of Vienna into a remarkably characterful, passionate, and colorful score – a youthful masterpiece that concludes this program brilliantly. Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony for String Orchestra No. 10 in B minor, MWV N10
Felix Mendelssohn: Concerto for Violin, Piano, and String Orchestra in D minor, MWV O4
