Description

The autumn festival will be an opportunity to breathe in the atmosphere of Ticino from the past with its costumes, trades, and customs. Tasting the typical specialties of our valleys, observing the manual skills of our grandparents, or trying to interact with their daily lives are the ingredients of this event set in the past. The chestnut will be the logical ambassador of traditions and can be enjoyed in countless ways. The typical market of artisanal products and local flavors will also be present. The celebration will take place along the lakeside of Ascona on Saturday, October 3; the traditional Chestnut Festival will be held on Saturday, October 10. Starting at 10:00 AM, there will be a market both in the square and in the parking lot area, where there will also be entertainment with “maronat,” refreshments, and music. In the square, in addition to the market, from 12:00 PM, lunch will be available in Piazza Torre with polenta and much more. At 2:00 PM, there will be a parade of costumed groups from the valleys (Onsernone, Vallemaggia, Chironico, Val Bedretto, Verzasca, Centovalli), songs and costumes from Bellinzona, horns, the Castellana band, and the Otello Mendrisio group, along with the Chironico group with chestnut beating in Piazza Elvezia. There will be music and chestnuts in both Piazza Elvezia and Piazza Torre. The event is expected to end around 5:30 PM/6:00 PM.
