Description

The Rütlischiessen over 300 meters is probably the most traditional shooting event in Switzerland. For over 160 years, shooters have met every Wednesday before Martini on the historic Rütli meadow. Shooting is done kneeling with the service rifle – outdoors and often under challenging autumn conditions. The event commemorates the Rütli Oath and combines sporting competition with camaraderie, federal unity, and lived tradition. In addition to the sections of the Waldstätte Uri, Schwyz, Nidwalden, Lucerne, and Engelberg-Anderhalden, selected guest sections from all over Switzerland participate. The organization changes annually among the Waldstätte sections. A shooting community with a festive speech forms another highlight of the day. At the Rütli, not only hits and rankings count: the special landscape on Lake Uri, the joint journey, and encounters among like-minded people make the Rütlischiessen a unique experience and an important part of Swiss shooting tradition.
