Description

With her mother's diary in hand, eighteen-year-old Marina travels to the western coast of Spain to the places where her parents, whom she never knew, once fell in love. Before she can orient herself in a sea of unknown relatives, secrets begin to emerge that burn more than the summer sun and salty sea spray even after years. From fragmented and often contradictory memories, Marina pieces together an unexpected picture of her mother's and father's fateful destructive love. Director Carla Simón returns with bittersweet tenderness and nostalgia to her adolescence at the turn of the millennium. This partially autobiographical story about searching for one's roots received enthusiastic responses in the Main Competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
