True to its habit of discovering or rediscovering unjustly little-known works, Amaryllis will step out of its usual comfort zone, which typically oscillates between early music and contemporary music, ignoring the intermediate period, and will offer you a program of romantic music entirely composed by female composers. These women had to overcome the culture of their time, which reserved honors of art and fame for men. Conservatories, prestigious positions, and official creation honors were jealously guarded. Women could only compose with the approval of their father or husband. Some careers were abruptly halted to prevent the emancipation of these overly fertile minds. A few of them were known in their time, but many were systematically erased by historians. Others had to settle for local recognition, as they only struggled to have their music performed. Yet, the recovered scores show a richness and quality quite comparable to those offered by their male contemporaries.
