The new quartet of Swiss guitarist Roberto Pianca brings together some of the most sought-after musicians on the current scene. New York pianist Glenn Zaleski and drummer Johnathan Blake, artists of the Blue Note label, accompany Swiss bassist Raffaele Bossard. Roberto Pianca's music reflects all his influences in modern and contemporary jazz, sometimes flirting with tradition and adopting a more avant-garde approach. The four musicians are remarkable virtuosos of their instruments and have an exceptional ability to create, each time they perform live, a special space allowing the listener to appreciate all aspects and details of their musical creations and collective performances. Born in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1984, Roberto Pianca studied music at the Conservatory of Amsterdam (Netherlands). He has played and worked with various renowned artists, including Joey Baron, Russ Lossing, John O’Gallagher, Mark Ferber, Johannes Weidenmüller, Thomas Morgan, Sienna Dahlen, Franco Ambrosetti, Dado Moroni, Pietro Tonolo, Yumi Ito, Nils Wogram, Jesse Van Ruller, Glenn Zaleski, Colin Stranahan, and Savina Yannatou, among others. In 2008, he founded the trio Third Reel, which joined the prestigious and legendary German label ECM Records in 2013. He appears on several albums as an accompanying musician and has released four albums as a leader (“Sub Rosa” – WideEar Records 2017, “Mono No Aware” – Honolulu Records 2021, “Fossils” – Honolulu Records 2023, and “III” – Honolulu Records 2024). Glenn Zaleski is especially known for his recent collaborations with groups such as Ravi Coltrane, Melissa Aldana, Lage Lund, and Cecile McLorin Salvant, among many others. Johnathan Blake, son of jazz violinist John Blake Jr., has collaborated with Kenny Barron, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane, Tom Harrell, Avishai Cohen, Donny McCaslin, Linda May Han Oh, Jaleel Shaw, Chris Potter, Maria Schneider, and countless other distinctive voices. Raffaele Bossard, on the other hand, is mainly known for his long-standing work with the various groups of saxophonist Christoph Irniger and has often worked regularly with Ziv Ravitz, Nat Su, and Nasheet Waits, among others.
