Description

Wagner's «Ring des Nibelungen» is probably the most monumental work in the history of opera. In four parts and over a duration of more than 16 hours, the entire Germanic mythological world unfolds: goddesses and gods, dwarfs and giants, Siegfried and the dragon, the famous Valkyries, and finally the apocalyptic Ragnarök. Epic, heroic, tragic, and contemplative – an incomparable adventure. But 16 hours is long, and to really get to know all the characters, one would have to work through Wagner explanation books, opera guides, and Wikipedia pages… «Ring re:told» brings Wagner's epic to the point. Musically compact, dramatically sharpened, and newly told. Instead of a huge orchestra and a large ensemble of singers, 15 musicians and a narrator suffice. High culture meets amusement, epic material meets entertaining entertainment, all understandable and accessible – and definitely in far less than 16 hours. The Gutenberg Winds show how great melodies can also impress in a small ensemble. OPERA RE:TOLD is an award-winning format that makes extensive opera material newly experienceable in a reduced but effective form. Closeness meets distance, reduction meets sound richness, and virtuosic playing combines with exciting storytelling. The actor FREDERIC BÖHLE, recently seen as Papageno in «Zauberflöte Reloaded» at the Stadttheater, leads through an opera experience that is surprisingly fresh, lively, and entertaining.
