Description

The flight attendant of a budget airline navigates through the precarious present while partying. Adèle Exarchopoulos in a stirring role searching for a place in a nomadic life. Once Cassandre takes off her protective uniform, she lets go. As a flight attendant stationed in a shared apartment in Lanzarote, she compensates for stress and grief with dating apps, vodka, and Eurotrash party hits, while the reality of her parental home tries to penetrate through voice messages. The directing duo Emmanuel Marre and Julie Lecoustre achieve with RIEN À FOUTRE (FUCKS GIVEN) a professional and character study of almost documentary, vivid immediacy. The camera unflinchingly focuses on Adèle Exarchopoulos as she interacts with actual airline employees. With disarming vulnerability, she plays a tragicomic millennial in hyper-capitalism, rushing between inhospitable transit locations as a flying nomad. And yet, she seeks her own path. The film is melancholic and touching – with calm counterpoints, poignant mood images, and a fitting emotional soundtrack.
