Having made a mark with his suspended piano concerts around the world – including the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games – Alain Roche presents an extraordinary work here. This requiem for the death of a star, our own, abandons vertical performance to unfold a continuous musical movement and an acoustic writing inspired by progressive music: layers, crescendos, transforming textures. Two pianos, percussion, and a majestic choir of 100 singers engage in dialogue with solo voices of great presence, supported by a libretto by Elie Zoé. Alain Roche composes a sound fresco where cosmic vertigo becomes intimate. In a clash of lyricism and explosion, Requiem For A Dead Sun takes us into a suspended space, where everything – from a blade of grass to the sun – reminds us of the fragile beauty of what ends.
