Description
On the condensation of perception What remains when less is enough? And where does the added value lie in what is characterized not by its quantity but by its condensation?
"Reichlich wenig" – two words that seem to contradict each other and yet open up a broad realm of thought. Little can be more, and much can mean little. A trace, a line, a layer of color, a piece of metal can be materially little and still carry a wealth of time, memory, experience, and relationship. The little is not necessarily the opposite of the fullness but can be its collected, concentrated form.
Because reduction does not arise from nothing. Where there is nothing, nothing can be taken away or condensed. Only a surplus enables the little. Behind a seemingly simple form, there may be decisions, repetitions, layers, resistances, coincidences, and time. The many are not eliminated but have merely found a form.
This idea extends far beyond art. Our universe is rich in galaxies, stars, and planets, yet it is overwhelmingly composed of emptiness. Even our own time appears rich, dense, and meaningful, while a single human life, in the flow of billions of years, forms only a moment. Fullness and emptiness, multiplicity and limitation, more and less do not simply oppose each other; they permeate each other.
The exhibition gathers four artistic positions that approach this idea in different ways. Christoph Thür explores perception, landscape, and atmosphere in his works. Patrick Thür condenses lines, surfaces, and shapes into metal sculptures, where rhythm and repetition form an independent visual language. Damian Thür brings an immediate, expressive perspective with drawing and painting, while Ariane Modaressi transfers the idea into smaller, concentrated forms through her jewelry works.
Thus, there is no uniform image of reduction but a interplay of different perspectives. What unites them is the question of what happens when the gaze is freed from excess and focuses on the individual, essential, and condensed.
The exhibition is also to be understood as an exercise in perception. It invites viewers to pause, look more closely, and pay attention to the seemingly insignificant. What appears to be little at first glance can prove to be rich and multi-layered upon closer inspection. Perception itself becomes a process of condensation. Music also finds its own access to this idea. Charly Tiefenauer, a talented musician, brings his personal interpretation of "Reichlich wenig" into the exhibition. His music explores the theme acoustically, expanding the visual dialogue by another dimension and making "Reichlich wenig" not only visible but also audible.
Our exhibition and its theme are thus richly experienced—visually, sensually, and musically. Perhaps the fullness of the little only reveals itself when we look, listen, and linger more carefully. The closer we get, the more can unfold in a small form. Like a dew drop, in whose small curved surface a whole landscape can be reflected, something larger gathers in the seemingly little. You do not need to enlarge it to see more in it. It is enough to come closer and let the gaze linger.
