Christmas and jazz – that has tradition. And so do the «Swingin’ Christmas» concerts by Raphael Jost and his band, which have been a fixed part of the Christmas season for many people for over 10 years and sell out venues. «Raphael Jost is that rarest of birds,» once said the British saxophonist Will Vinson, who lives in New York. «A singer and songwriter with a great voice and at the same time a pianist who can share the stage with the best of them.» Jost, who was already awarded the Swiss Jazz Award for his debut album, considers himself a modern crooner. Humorous and without too much kitsch, he guides the evening. Classic swing songs like «Let It Snow» and «Winter Wonderland» are complemented by original compositions, «JingleBells» gets a touch of Brad Mehldau, and «Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer» turns into a sleigh ride to New Orleans. The program leaves plenty of room for solos and impresses with sophisticated and original arrangements. Singer Stefanie Suhner combines jazz and soul in her magnificent voice and has previously toured with Udo Jürgens and Pepe Lienhard. In the horn section, the outstanding soloists Bastien Rieser on trumpet and Christoph Grab on tenor sax play. Jost's longtime companion Raphael Walser on double bass and the renowned drummer Elmar Frey form the rhythm section. The six musicians share an exuberant joy of playing and a love for jazz tradition. They excite the audience with energy, groove, and lively interplay – and ensure a swinging Christmas celebration.
