Bring Your Apple!

Description

What is the name of the old apple variety that has been growing in a garden for generations? Is it rare or still widespread in the region? On Saturday, October 10th, from 9 am to 12 pm, the Regional Natural Park Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut, together with Mazette and the FRUCTUS association, organizes a morning for the identification of old fruit varieties. The event takes place in Pringy at the Mazette Cidery / Le Fou du Roi Brewery (Route du Moléson 58b). If you own an old apple or pear tree in the park area or know such a tree, you can bring 3 to 4 fruits per tree. Experts from FRUCTUS, the Swiss association for the promotion of old fruit varieties, will try to identify the respective variety. Only fruits from trees growing within the natural park area are considered. Discover and preserve old varieties. The event is not only for identifying varieties but also for conserving the regional fruit heritage. Rediscovered old varieties can be documented and, if of particular cultural interest, propagated further through grafting. This ensures their preservation for future generations. The morning is aimed at anyone who:- wants to have the variety of an old apple or pear tree identified;- wishes to preserve and propagate an old variety;- wants to order one or more high-stem fruit trees grafted with old varieties;- wants to taste apple juices and ciders from Mazette. For nearly 20 years, the natural park has supported the planting and maintenance of high-stem orchards as well as the preservation and promotion of old fruit varieties. These trees shape the landscape, provide valuable habitats for numerous animal and plant species, and form a living cultural heritage to be passed on to future generations.
