Description

Štěpán Rak (1945) is primarily known as a guitarist, composer, and improviser. He will showcase all these artistic areas at the concert. The so-called "Rak's tremolo" has become a term in the guitar world. It employs a technique of playing with all five fingers of the right hand on one or more strings simultaneously. Štěpán Rak founded the guitar department at Prague's HAMU in 1982, where he currently focuses on teaching improvisation. This art will be on full display throughout the concert. Professor Štěpán Rak's lifelong goal is to present the guitar not only as a solo instrument but also as an orchestra. Jan-Matěj Rak (1977), a singer-songwriter, enthusiastic amateur astronomer, excellent photographer, and a creative soul full of ideas, has tackled the challenging task of arranging the music of Jaroslav Ježek for solo guitar, including tricky pieces like Bugatti step and Tři strážníci. His arrangements of baroque music, as well as works by Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana, are also innovative. He has been performing with his father, Štěpán Rak, for years, and their concerts RAK and RAK are characterized by originality and always offer numerous surprises. Many pieces receive their final form right on stage, so the audience always has something to look forward to. This will be no different at this concert.
