On October 29, 2026, we will jointly subject the Swiss democracy and the Democracy Initiative to a stress test with co-organizer SOUS-SOUL Bern. Democracy thrives on participation and on the question of who actually has the right to participate. In February 2027, we will vote on the Democracy Initiative. Popular initiatives FOR the rights of foreigners can be counted on one hand in Swiss history — including the Democracy Initiative. Initiatives AGAINST foreigners, on the other hand, are numerous and regularly come before the voters — from the Schwarzenbach Initiative to the "Sustainability Initiative." Therefore, the Democracy Initiative is THE ANTIDOTE to ten anti-immigration initiatives. But what does that mean in concrete terms? What does a society look like where everyone living here can also have a say? And why is this not only fair but also an opportunity for all of us? ART AND POLITICS
Rebekka Lindauer places the topic musically and satirically before Stefan Manser-Egli (Operation Libero), who critically examines the GLP position, represented by Melanie Mettler (GLP, City Councilor Bern). Afterwards, Swiss democracy and the Democracy Initiative will be put to a stress test in a discussion with Nadra Mao (Co-President Aktion Vierviertel) and Sean Müller (Political Science PhD, University of Bern).
