Description

In September 2023, Mathis, a 9-year-old schoolboy near Charleroi, suffers racist insults from his classmates. In reaction, he becomes uncontrollably angry, and the school decides to call the police. Upon arrival, his mother Rita finds her son pinned to the ground by a police officer. Laurène Marx, a writer, and Bwanga Pilipili, a Belgian performer and activist, decide to tell this act of racist violence through the story of Rita, a Cameroonian businesswoman turned housekeeper in Belgium. Crossing three perspectives – that of a mother, an actress confronting ethno-racial discrimination, and a white trans author – the show questions whiteness, identity projections, and dehumanization. After Pour un temps sois peu, Le Soleil se lève aussi pour les cassos, and Jag et Johnny, Laurène Marx returns to Pommier with a piece in the form of a punch that outlines a history of police brutality, seeking to open a path to clarity and collective healing.
