Playin' Tachles, a Klezmer-Jazz formation from the Basel region, presents its new program "Oy, what a Journey!" featuring joyful music and humorous Jewish anecdotes. What a journey! Life is not a straight path – rather a dance on crooked trails. From Yiddish lullabies to Romanian stories, from Jerusalem of Gold to the Grinen Kusine – the five musicians of Playin' Tachles, all from the Basel region, pack in everything that sings, swings – and is a bit meschugge. Here, Rad Halaila meets jazz groove, Papirosn meets spirited tango, and Misirlou takes you with oriental melancholy into the coffee-scented alleys of the Mediterranean. And somewhere in between, someone loses their heart – or finds it again. «Oy, what a Journey!» is not a concert, but a musical map: Between East and West, between shtetl and jazz club, between heaven and everyday life. In the end, despite all the improvisation, the way to the heart is always found again. A program to fall in love with, to twist and to dream on – a bit meschugge, a bit chutzpe, entirely Playin' Tachles. In the previous two programs «Es is unz ain Fargenign» and «Shein Vi Di L’Vone», the Basel formation condensed the influence of many cultures into a danceable and exuberantly lively musical experience that resonates in memory long after. The playful sound colors of jazz, gypsy, Balkan, and South Sea mix with atmospheric texts, anecdotes, and typical Jewish humor.
