It features approximately 50 dedicated amateur musicians from the Basel region, led and supported by a few professional musicians and a professional concertmaster. Soloist: Dmitry Smirnov, Violin Dmitry Smirnov won second prize at the renowned ARD Music Competition. Since then, he has been a sought-after soloist with renowned professional orchestras. Among other roles, he is the concertmaster of the Basel Chamber Orchestra. Dmitry Smirnov hails from St. Petersburg, where he started playing violin at the age of four. He studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg and at the Basel Music Academy under Professor Rainer Schmidt. Conductor: Leonardo Muzii Leonardo Muzii has been leading the Philharmonic Orchestra Basel since 2023. He is from Naples. He completed his conducting studies at the Lucerne University of Music in the class of Professor Thüring Bräm. He conducts various amateur orchestras and founded the Camerata Rousseau, a professional orchestra in Basel.
