Description

The most striking element is the installation of several bronze sculptures by Jaroslav Koléšek, which fill the space of the chapel. The slightly provocative tone of the author's artistic expression somewhat 'shakes up' the treatment of otherwise traditional existential themes, resonating with love, justice, confession, and compassion. Outside of real time and space move the solitary figures of Aleš Hudeček, which the author places in often very unsettling interiors. At the Archdiocesan Museum, he presents a monumental canvas, located in the cross cloister dominated by the medieval fresco of the Sacrifice of Christ on the cross. In contrast, the pair of small canvases by Katarína Szanyi represents a very personal and intimate approach. The author composes found objects from the shore into compositions that can evoke fragments of time and stories and, figuratively, also the Arma Christi. Their placement near the medieval fresco of the Veil of Veronica with the imprint of Christ's face creates a suggestive tension. The overall intimate exhibition – an intervention in the historical spaces of the Archdiocesan Museum – presents a concentrated testimony of three authors from the middle generation, who, without ostentation and without the need for sensationalism, address the issues of life, faith, the fragility of human existence, and the current state of the world. Jaroslav Koléšek The sculptor and teacher Jaroslav Koléšek (*1974, Šternberk) studied from 1992 to 1997 at the Department of Visual Arts of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ostrava, particularly under Stanislav Hanzík and Mario Kotrba; he completed his doctoral studies at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. He has long been teaching at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Ostrava, where since 2011 he has held the position of head of the sculpture studio. In his artistic production, he combines the high craft culture of sculpture with industrial and figurative motifs. He works with bronze, stone, glass, resin, and other materials. Aleš Hudeček The painter Aleš Hudeček (*1973, Uherské Hradiště) is deeply connected to Ostrava. He initially studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště and later, from 1992 to 1997, at the University of Ostrava in the painting studio of Daniel Balabán. He has been one of the leading authors of the Ostrava art scene since the mid-1990s. The leitmotif of his work is the figure, often placed in alien situations, interiors, and psychologically unsettling visual environments; he also works with found photographs, exaggeration, and a delicate shift of reality towards a dreamlike or metaphorical plane. Katarína Szanyi The painter Katarína Szányi (*March 20, 1974, Košice) works in Ostrava. She studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Košice and, from 1992 to 1997, at the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Ostrava, in the painting studio of Daniel Balabán. She is associated with the VY3 group and has long been developing a painting path based on a sensitive work with color, light, and atmosphere. Her work oscillates between concrete motifs and abstract, meditative painting.
