The second evening celebrating Beethoven's anniversary will showcase the middle and late phases of his piano works. Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor offers dramatic contrasts, energetic solo passages, and tension between the soloist and orchestra. Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, known as the "Emperor," captivates with its open, festive sound and lyrical, almost conversational passages. Jean-Efflam Bavouzet manages to balance expressive intensity and delicacy, giving the music a new charge and vitality.
