IWB and Linie-e invite you to take a behind-the-scenes look at Basel's waste incineration.
Since the year 2000, household waste may no longer be landfilled in Switzerland; this waste must be completely incinerated in suitable facilities. The first waste incineration plant (KVA) was built in Basel in 1942 to generate energy from waste. The current KVA Basel was put into operation at the beginning of 1999. The Basel waste incineration plant burns around 210,000 tons of waste annually and generates heat, steam, and electricity from it.
