Public Tour of the Basel Wood Power Plant

Description

IWB and Linie-e open the doors to the Basel Wood Power Plant. The wood power plant has been in operation since 2008 during the heating season (winter half-year). It is integrated into the infrastructure of the Basel waste incineration plant, which enables great synergies in electricity and heat production. In a vertical furnace with 30 megawatts of firing capacity, wood chips are burned in a fluidized bed of sand. The generated steam drives turbines and produces electricity for about 6,500 households. Additionally, heat is produced, which supplies around 5,500 households via the district heating network.
